Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding is just over two weeks away, and they have just made an announcement about the nuptials that has people around the world cheering.
Over the past few months, many have wondered whether Meghan’s father would be invited to the wedding to walk her down the aisle, as the two have been estranged at times. That’s why it came as a welcome surprise today when Harry’s press secretary Jason Knauf confirmed that Meghan’s father Thomas Markle and mother Doria Ragland will be arriving one week before the wedding to meet the royal family. This means that Meghan has decided to invite her father to the wedding after all!
“The first thing I would like to share is that Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to welcoming Ms. Markle’s parents to Windsor for the wedding,” Knauf announced in a statement, according to Fox News. “Both of the bride’s parents will have important roles in the wedding. On the morning of the wedding, Ms. Ragland will travel with Ms. Markle by car to Windsor Castle. Mr. Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle of St George’s Chapel.”
He went on to say that Meghan “is delighted to have her parents by her side on this important and happy occasion.”
The Family Will Meet the Queen
Meghan’s parents, who are divorced, will be meeting with Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip, with Harry’s dad Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as with his brother Prince William and his sister-in-law Kate.
This comes after Meghan’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. wrote a public letter to Harry urging him to back out of the wedding. Meghan has decided not to invite her half brother and half sister Samantha Grant to the wedding, and to say they are unhappy about this is an understatement.
“As more time passes to your royal wedding, it became very clear that this is the biggest mistake in royal wedding history,” Thomas wrote. “Meghan Markle is obviously not the right woman for you. I’m confused why you don’t see the real Meghan that the whole world now sees. Meghan’s attempt to act the part of a princess like a below C average Hollywood actress is getting old.”
We’re glad to see that Meghan has put this family drama aside to invite her father to her wedding. Being walked down the aisle on your wedding day by your father is a moment that every girl should get to experience, and we can’t wait to see Meghan do that!
