rachel platten national anthem

Pop star Rachel Platten lived out almost every singer’s nightmare when she forgot the words to the National Anthem while performing at the NWSL soccer game between the Utah Royals and the Chicago Red Stars over the weekend.

Platten, who performed the National Anthem at the 2016 World Series without issue is incredibly embarrassed about this very public flub. She is best known for chart-topper “Fight Song,” which was Hillary Clinton’s theme song during her 2016 failed presidential campaign. Now, the singer of Hillary’s song is covering her tracks after this public disaster.

“I was so nervous going into it. The anthem is such a big deal; it’s probably the most important song for our country. I always get nervous because it means so much because it is so powerful. I always want to do it justice, do a good job and give people the exact version they expect and they want,” she said.

She messed up not once, but twice as she sang for thousands of soccer fans. When she froze up on the words, she decided to stay with it and finish the song. This is a song that we learned as children, but when it was time to sing it before the game, Platten drew a blank.

“I was proud that I was able to finish … I actually can’t believe I didn’t forget more words and that I was able to complete the song. So I’m kind of shocked,” she said about the mishap.“‘What I’m not going to do is run away. I really want to run out of the stadium right now, but I’m not going to do that. I’m going to finish this song.’”

You can watch her performance in the video below.

Platten said that nerves got the best of her. Thankfully, those nerves didn’t act up when she sang it at the World Series.

The singer was scheduled to perform a concert after the game. While she wanted to hide her face after her public debacle, she stayed around to complete the job she was hired to do.

Platten looked at Twitter to see the reactions. They were brutal as Twitter as the social media platform doesn’t exactly give passes for situations like this.
