Rejecting Hollywood Liberals, Dennis Quaid Shares The Gospel In A Song He Wrote

Dennis Quaid has been a Hollywood star for decades, but there is something you might not know about him. He’s a Christian.

The actor says his role in the blockbuster I Can Only Imagine, helped strengthen his faith. It also allowed him to write and perform a Christian song that he gave to his mother for her birthday.

“I Can Only Imagine”

In I Can Only Imagine, Quaid plays the role of Arthur, Bart Millard’s abusive and abrasive father, whose cold outlook on life was softened when he found the grace and redemption of Jesus Christ.

This role helped propel him to finish “On My Way To Heaven” as a gift for his mother’s 91st birthday.

His mother has been his rock, and a great example of someone with steadfast faith. He began writing the song 25 years ago. He couldn’t find a way to finish it, until his role in this film.

“Her faith is unquestionable. So solid. So I wrote it for her, but I guess it’s my story,” Quaid said. “What moved me about finishing it really was my character of Arthur and how he found grace… That’s the beautiful thing about the good news that Jesus was talking about.”

Connection To His Roots

Quaid says the song is a “connection to his roots” and helps detail his faith journey. “I grew up in a Baptist church, went to Sunday school, and then I got baptized when I was nine and made the decision the same day as my brother,” the actor said. “My brother and I, Randy, were both baptized on the same day.”

In his younger years, there was a time when Dennis Quaid questioned his faith. He rediscovered it in the pages of the Bible. 

“The question I had as I went around the world was ‘Who is God?’ I became a seeker really… I read the Bible cover to cover. For me, it’s Jesus… it’s the red words of Jesus. How simple it is. There really is redemption and that was the inspiration,”  he stated.

Strong Faith

It takes a tremendous amount of courage to publicly display your Christian faith in Hollywood, but Dennis Quaid put it all on the line for Jesus. He also discussed writing the song, and his strong faith in Jesus, in the video below.

I Can Only Imagine is proving there is a serious demand for quality family and Christian entertainment.
