Asuka Challenges Charlotte To WrestleMania Match

We’ve been waiting more than a month for Royal Rumble winner Asuka to choose her WrestleMania opponent, and she finally made her decision Sunday night at Fastlane.

Asuka will face Charlotte for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Asuka’s challenge of Charlotte was a remarkable moment in an overall great PPV. I’m getting chills just thinking about it.

This has been a dream match of mine for a while, and I couldn’t be more excited that WWE decided to go in this direction. Charlotte is in the top three of my favorite female WWE Superstars, and Asuka’s undefeated streak speaks for itself. I’m torn on who to root for: on one hand I want Asuka’s streak to continue; on the other hand, Asuka losing to Charlotte at WrestleMania is the ONLY way I’d be okay with the streak ending (sorry, Ronda fans). So really it’s a win-win – and I won’t be surprised if this match steals the show.

But even though we finally know who Asuka will be facing at WrestleMania, her decision has ushered in a whole new set of questions.

What Does This Mean For Raw?

Of course, it didn’t take long for Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss to express her relief that she was out of Asuka’s crosshairs.

Presumably, this means The Goddess will face Nia Jax at WrestleMania. But as exciting as that best friend blow-up is sure to be, it might be more interesting to see what happens with Raw after WrestleMania.

If Asuka defeats Charlotte, she’ll permanently move to SmackDown. But what happens if Charlotte retains? Will Asuka return to Raw, less formidable than before? Or will she remain on the blue brand?

What about Ronda Rousey? Ronda is a big reason WWE chose to have Asuka challenge Charlotte instead of Alexa – now Ronda can go after the Raw Women’s Championship without Asuka – and her streak – being in the way. But will Ronda enter the title picture after WrestleMania, or will it be more of a slow build?

We’ll just have to wait and see.

Are you excited that Asuka challenged Charlotte to a match at WrestleMania? Who do you think will win? Share your thoughts and comments below!
