On the February 5th Monday Night Raw, General Manager Kurt Angle announced that, instead of fighting inside the Elimination Chamber next month, Nia Jax will face women’s Royal Rumble winner Asuka. If Jax manages to beat Asuka and snap her record undefeated streak, she’ll be added to the Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania.

To be sure, the announcement was a bit of a curveball, but perhaps WWE wants to keep real-life best friends Jax and Alexa Bliss away from each other for as long as possible.

And speaking of Jax’s best friend, Bliss was none too happy being placed in the Elimination Chamber match. Following Angle’s announcement, she stormed to the ring and accused him of being “sexist” for making her defend her title at Elimination Chamber while Universal Champion Brock Lesnar gets to just sit by and wait for a challenger.

Oh boy. Not gonna lie – I scoffed when I heard this promo. It was a touch too political for my taste; I don’t want hot-button issues like sexism in the workplace infiltrating my pro wrestling experience.

Furthermore, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Even though I hate that Lesnar is still Universal Champion, he’s defended his title at three of the last four Raw pay-per-views. Meanwhile, Bliss hasn’t defended the Raw Women’s Championship since TLC way back in October – the fact that Angle readily pointed out.

Of course, technically that isn’t Bliss’s fault – booking is to blame. But if Bliss wanted equal treatment, maybe she should have defended her title an equal amount of times.
