WWE’s resident Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose, turns 32 years old today!
In honor of Ambrose’s birthday, here are the top 5 moments of his WWE career thus far.
This list wouldn’t be complete without noting the debut of The Shield. At Survivor Series in 2012, CM Punk was on the verge of losing his WWE Championship when Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns emerged from the crowd. With a single triple powerbomb to Ryback, The Shield made a definitive and unforgettable debut, and they would go on to become one of the greatest and most dominant factions in WWE history.
In one of the best matches of his career, Ambrose defeated Kevin Owens in a TLC match at the titular PPV in 2015 to win his first Intercontinental Championship. His reign may have only lasted 64 days, but it gave us some more fantastic matches with Owens and helped to revitalize Ambrose’s career after losing to Roman Reigns clean at Survivor Series the month before.
Not long after The Shield split up and fans were still reeling from Seth Rollins’s shocking betrayal, Rollins was set to face Roman Reigns at Night of Champions in 2014. However, when Reigns was rushed to the hospital with a genuine incarcerated hernia, it looked like the match wouldn’t happen – until Ambrose made a triumphant return from a kayfabe hospital stay. The ovation he received was huge, and his subsequent babyface run was possibly the best of his career.
Throughout the summer of 2017, WWE teased a long-awaited reunion of The Shield. But just before giving us what we all wanted, Ambrose and Rollins reconciled their differences and defeated Sheamus and Cesaro at SummerSlam to become the Raw Tag Team Champions. But what was especially noteworthy about this win for Ambrose was that it made him both a Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion within WWE.
Dean Ambrose broke his pay-per-view loss streak in a big way at the 2016 Money in the Bank PPV when he defeated Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn to win the coveted Money in the Bank contract. But his golden night didn’t stop there. Not one to wait, later in the evening he successfully cashed in on his former brother in the Shield, Seth Rollins, to win his very first WWE Championship.
There you have it: the top five moments of Dean Ambrose’s career thus far. Hopefully, there are many more fantastic WWE moments in his future!
