utah nurse arrested

Video of a University of Utah nurse being arrested for refusing to allow police to draw blood from an unconscious patient without a warrant dominated social media over the Labor Day weekend.

First, we learned that the patient was actually a reserve police officer himself who was working his full-time job as a truck driver when his truck was hit by a suspect fleeing Utah State Police. Officer William Gray wasn’t even a suspect in this accident, yet local police arrested Nurse Alex Wubbels for obeying hospital policy by refusing to allow a blood draw on Gray.

Now, Wubbels is speaking out. She is not planning on suing the Utah police, instead focusing on educating police and hospital staff on situations like this. She is particularly upset that University of Utah security did not come to her aid. You can see a video of her speaking about this incident below.

In a Facebook post, the Police Department where William Gray works praised Alex Wubbels for protecting his rights. Officer Gray is the victim here and the nurse was his ally and protector while he was unconscious.

Alex Wubbels is someone I would want to care for me in a situation like this. She did everything right. Now, she is working to make the system work for everyone.

Share this if you think Alex Wubbels did the right thing!
