Mae Young Classic Participant Princesa Sugehit Unmasked at Wrestling Event!

If you have watched the Mae Young Classic on the WWE Network, you are undoubtedly familiar with Princesa Sugehit. Unfortunately, Princesa Sugehit got unmasked during the anniversary CMLL event.

What Is the Big Deal with Losing a Luchador Mask?

Betting a mask – or being unmasked – is devastating for a luchador or a luchadora. The mask is meant to keep their identity hidden, so having the face shown to the public for the first time is seen as a humiliation for the luchador or luchadora.

The mask is also a symbol for a luchador or luchadora. The mask stands for the honor of the person wearing it. Once a luchador or luchadora is unmasked, the mask is retired and can never be used again. So, in fact, when losing the mask, a wrestler loses their honor and their wrestling identity.

What Happened?

Princesa Sugehit lost her mask during a mask vs. mask match Saturday. Princesa Sugehit went up against Zeuxis in a 2-out-of-3 falls match; this to mark the 84th anniversary of CMLL.

Who Is Princesa Sugehit?

If you are not that familiar with the Luchadora, here is all you need to know about this outstanding female wrestler.

Early Life

Princesa Sugehit, real name Ernestina Sugehit Salazar Martinez, was born on the 25th of June 1980 in Mexico. From an early age, she had a passion for the Mexican wrestling scene and jumped at the change to learn when a new wrestling school opened in her native town of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. She was also the only female wrestler in the wrestling school!

Her Mask Design

The butterfly wrestling mask of Princesa Sugehit has a lot of meaning; this is why I imagine it to be a big emotional upset for her to be unmasked.

Back in her training days, one of her trainers said she could fly high like a Monarch butterfly. Naturally, this stuck with her, as she used a wrestling mask with a butterfly design ever since.

Princesa Sugehit in the Ring

Wrestling fans could admire Princesa Sugehit during the Mae Young Classic recently, where she also wore her typical butterfly Lucha mask. Unfortunately, the luchadora did not pick up the win and stranded in Episode 5 of the Mae Young Classic, where she got pinned by Mercedes Martinez.

Other Events With Princesa Sugehit

If you want to see more of Princesa Sugehit, you will be surprised with just how much you can find online. She has done numerous wrestling promotions over the years; this includes the prestigious Mexican wrestling promotion AAA. She has also done many events for CMLL, the last promotion cost her the butterfly luchadora mask.

What do you think about Princesa Sugehit losing her mask so shortly after the Mae Young Classic? Do you think it means she is retiring or just going for a character overhaul? Post your unsalted opinions on the subject in the comment section below! We look forward to reading what you have to say!
