peanut allergies

Peanut allergies can be a life or death situation for some people. Even touching something with peanuts in it can cause a violent reaction in those with a severe case of the allergy.

But, Australian researchers at Australia’s Murdoch Children’s Research Institute have announced they have had success with treating this allergy.

48 children with a peanut allergy were involved in the study. Some were given placebos but others were given a probiotic with peanut protein. After 18 months, 82% were cured of the allergy. Four years later, 80% remain without signs of the allergy. 70% demonstrate that they will have long term peanut tolerance.

Lead Researcher Mimi Tang said the children who remain cured four years later, “had been eating peanut[s] freely in their diet without having to follow any particular program of peanut intake.”

The probiotic combined with the protein powder helped reprogram the immune system’s reaction to peanuts. The program is believed to have calmed the immune system.

This could lead to a massive change for many families who have to carry Epi-Pens everywhere and live with a constant fear of peanuts.

More information about this breakthrough study is in the video below.

Tang is hoping this will be on the market in five years. This would be incredibly welcome news to many people around the globe!
