mary kate robertson lyme disease

Duck Dynasty’s Mary Kate Robertson made a huge announcement on her blog. Her family suffers from Lyme disease. She wanted to discuss it so others who are battling this crippling disease know they are not alone.

“It just came in and started taking things slowly to where I didn’t notice it immediately. I guess we just adjusted. It would turn us a little off course and as a family we changed with it,” the 21-year-old wrote on her blog. “But now I’m looking back and realizing how it wiped us all completely off course. Because it just kept taking and taking and it just keeps taking and taking. It’s stolen so much.”

We had a magical 3 weeks of travel lately, but theres really nothing like being back in your own house and getting back in routine. It’s so funny during our first year of school I constantly wanted to move back to Louisiana, but now I absolutely love it here at Liberty. It’s such a refreshing place to be and so fun to come back to! I’ve been doing a John Piper devo lately on my bible app and it’s all about the glory of God. It says “Trusting God is seeing Him as glorious and being satisfied in Him.” Then it goes on to say,”You become like what you treasure. You become like what you worship.” Wow. I always want God to be the treasure of my life…always choosing Him and finding my satisfaction and worth in Him. Good ole John Piper also says, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”?

Mary Kate, who is married to Korie and Willie’s oldest son John Luke, told readers that her father was first diagnosed when she was in the 4th grade. At the time, they were happy to have an explanation as to why he was so ill. But, things got worse. When Mary Kate was in middle school, she and her mother and sister were also diagnosed with Lyme disease.

“By high school, I was feeling effects of it. I’ve always been super active, but by my junior year of high school, I felt SO tired. It didn’t matter how much I slept I was tired. I started going to a doctor more regularly then and he told me it was most likely triggered by the stress of transferring schools,” she continued. “So basically stress is a trigger that makes me more tired-when I’m tired I can’t get things done that I need to get done which makes me stressed, which makes me more tired. What a wicked cycle.”

Mary Kate admits that her strong faith helps carry her through the worst of times. She also educated her readers that Lyme disease is caused by a deer tick. At first, it is preventable with antibiotics after you are bitten. If you pull a tick off yourself, go to the doctor and ask for antibiotics.

Mary Kate and John Luke Robertson have been married for two years. Video from their wedding is below.

Mary Kate and her family could certainly use our prayers during this difficult time. This is a rough battle for anyone to go through, let alone her entire family.
