Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Oscar-nominated actor Sam Shepard has sadly passed away at the age of 73:
A family spokesperson said Monday that Shepard died Thursday at his home in Kentucky from complications related to Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Shepard produced 44 plays and wrote dozens of books, memoirs, and short stories. His 1979 play Buried Child won the Pulitzer for drama. He was a reluctant actor, but his 1984 turn as Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff earned him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.
His final role was in the short-lived but beloved Netflix crime drama Bloodline.
