1970s teen star David Cassidy has announced some devastating news. The former heartthrob is battling dementia and has stopped touring.
Cassidy is best known for his role as Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family. He can no longer deny that he is facing dementia after he forgot the lyrics to songs he has been singing for five decades during a February concert.
He watched his mother and grandfather fall prey to the effects of dementia. Cassidy told People Magazine “I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming.”
In the announcement that he will no longer be touring, David said “I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions,” he says. “I want to love. I want to enjoy life.”

Cassidy understands the struggles he will be facing regarding this disease. In recounting his mother’s final years he said, “In the end, the only way I knew she recognized me is with one single tear that would drop from her eye every time I walked into the room. … I feared I would end up that way.”
For those of us who have witnessed a love one dealing with dementia, we recognize the trials he will be facing.
Time isn’t always very kind. I’ll always remember David Cassidy as the teen singing “I Think I Love You” in the video below.
This is a very sad announcement. Hopefully without the stress of touring, David can focus on his quality of life.
