Liberals who are looking to move to Canada following Donald Trump’s election might not have as quick of an escape as they expect. It seems our northern neighbors also have some strict immigration laws.
There are some guidelines even liberals will have to gain Canadian citizenship.
You have to be at least 18 years old. Minors will need their parents to either be citizens or be also in the process of getting citizenship.

Being a skilled worker will fast track your application.
Skilled workers can apply for Express Entry. If you rank higher than other skilled applicants, you can be offered permanent residence.
You need to have a permanent residence in Canada.
To become a permanent resident, people can choose between several avenues. They can apply through the province of their choice, go down a special entrepreneur route, get help from a family member who lives in Canada, or go through Quebec, which has special immigration requirements.
Permanent residents are entitled to healthcare coverage and can work, study, and travel anywhere in Canada. You just can’t vote, run for office, or hold some jobs with high security clearance.
You must be a permanent resident of Canada for for at least 1,460 days of the six years following your application for citizenship. You also have to actually be in Canada for at least half of each of those years.
You also need to be able to speak English or French. Funny, you don’t hear people complain about Canadians being racist for having a language requirement for immigrants!
As much as I wouldn’t mind for some of these whiners to pack it up and leave, as the immigration lawyer in the video below says by the time these liberals would qualify for citizenship, we might have another president. He also says you can’t just show up at the border with your passport. It’s not that simple to gain residency there.
I think we might be stuck with them. Maybe they will learn not to throw temper tantrums and make ridiculous promises. We got our hopes up that they would leave and Canada doesn’t seem to want them.
