Maryland’s Katie Ledecky is one of the best swimmers in the world. She is the world record holder in the 400-, 800- and 1500-meter freestyles. She also is a devout Catholic.

She admits to saying a Hail Mary before every race. “I do say a prayer – or two – before any race. The Hail Mary is a beautiful prayer and I find that it calms me,” the gold medalist told Catholic Standard.

“My Catholic faith is very important to me. It always has been and it always will be. It is part of who I am and I feel comfortable practicing my faith. It helps me put things in perspective.”

Katie is proud of her faith. It helps carry her. And before smashing the world record and winning the gold medal in the 400 meter freestyle, you can be assured that Ledecky prayed.

Watch how she completely blows away the competition in this race. She actually got to turn around and wait for the rest of the swimmers to finish – something unheard of at this level of swimming.

So inspiring! It is so great to see someone who is successful and also so proud of who she is and what she believes in.

Watch her be awarded her gold medal. I get goosebumps every time I hear the National Anthem at the Olympics.

Way to go Katie! Expect her to add to her medal collection. She is just getting started in Rio!

Please share this if you are a proud Christian, too!
