Tom Connolly

Tommy Connolly was a student athlete when his world made a dramatic turn. He was hoping to represent Australia as a sprinter on the world stage when his cousin Angela friend requested him on Facebook.

Connolly hadn’t seen Angela in 10 years and was horrified to learn the 16 year old was homeless and pregnant. He went and picked her up from where she was staying and moved her in with him.

This 23 year old student did something rather remarkable. He adopted his cousin just a week before she delivered her son.

Tom became a father and a grandfather in an instant. But, it wasn’t a hard decision for him. “Everyone likes to tell me this is such a big responsibility, but I wasn’t thinking about uni or work or anything, all I was doing was thinking that she needed me,” he said.

Tom had saved $2800 from working full time on school break. He used this money to move into a proper house and buy items for the baby.

The day baby Joshua was born, Tom was finishing  his school assignments at the hospital. This young man has quite a strong sense of responsibility, but he shrugs off the accolades by saying its simply the right thing to do.

“Angela does 90 per cent of the work – and if it’s one or two years of my life I have to put on hold to make sure two lives are going to be saved it’s nothing at all.”

He very much has taken on the role of a father. He pixelates Angela’s face so she is unrecognizable since she is a minor. Her real name isn’t even Angela. He is protecting her from publicity she may not want when she is an adult.

Just when you think you’ve given up hope on the young generation, Tommy Connolly shows up! What an amazing thing to do. This man is going places!
