Céline Dion lost her husband and the love of her life René Angélil in January, when he passed away from a long battle with cancer. He was her manager since she was a child and the two were extraordinarily close.
Céline just returned to performing since his death. The show began with a picture of René and a quote from Céline that said, “I understood that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony. The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him.”
The first twenty minutes of the concert were streamed live so all of her fans could witness her return.
Céline spoke at length about her husband and the love they shared during their 21 year marriage. She said she can still feel his presence when she cares for their three children.
Céline’s love for René continues even after his passing. He is ever present in her life.
“René is the only man that I have known all my life,” she said. “He always made me feel that we were on our first date, isn’t that amazing? Never talking bluntly, and always impressing himself in a soft and gentle way. We were one, and nothing has changed. We will always be one.”
Céline earned much praise for her passionate performance following such a loss. Her career will continue. It is a part of his “masterpiece.” What a beautiful testament to their love.
