From Swedish candy to Logan’s cucumber salad, we’ll explain why these foods are so popular and show you how to make them, too!
Pasta chips
First up on our list of food trends on TikTok right now are pasta chips. This crunchy, addictive snack trend offers a unique twist on the classic Italian staple. This viral food hack transforms regular pasta into a chip-like snack that is easily made and endlessly customizable.
The basic recipe involves boiling pasta until al dente, tossing it with olive oil and seasonings, and air-frying or baking it until crispy. This trend is so popular because of its versatility. TikTokers have also experimented with various pasta shapes, from bow ties to rigatoni and an array of seasonings ranging from classic Italian herbs to spicy buffalo flavors.
Tanghulu
Next, tanghulu, a traditional Chinese street snack, has become the latest viral sensation on TikTok. These eye-catching skewers feature fruits like strawberries or grapes coated in a hard, glossy sugar shell. Videos of the treat have racked up millions of views.
The treat’s popularity stems from its unique texture combination – a satisfying crunch followed by juicy fruit. As the trend spreads, food enthusiasts are trying their hand at homemade versions, while shops have also started selling this Instagrammable treat.
Tanghulu’s visual appeal and the ASMR-like experience of cracking through the sugar coating make it perfect for social media, especially TikTok.
Frozen tomato toast
Another one of the top food trends on TikTok puts a chilly twist on the Spanish classic pan con tomate. This hack involves grating frozen tomato slices over toast. The trend has gone viral for its simplicity, visual appeal, and ASMR-like grating sound.
Unlike traditional pan con tomate, where fresh tomato is rubbed onto bread, this method creates a light, snow-like layer that melts on the warm toast. The result is a refreshing summer meal with a satisfying texture. TikTokers have also been adding their own flair with herbs, cheese, or olive oil.
Chickles
Another one of the most popular food trends on TikTok right now is the iconic chickle. Now, what the heck is a chickle? This unique food trend was sparked by content creator Katie Richie.
In her TikTok videos, she wrapped a pickle in melted shredded cheese. After posting videos of herself eating the crunchy exterior with a sour, dill pickle interior, the trend quickly took off. There have been many variations with types of cheese and pickles, even making them into chickle chips!
Chopped sandwich
Another viral food trend on TikTok is the chopped sandwich. This innovative approach involves finely chopping all sandwich ingredients, including the deli meat and veggies, on the cutting board before putting them into the sandwich. The trend has gained significant traction on the platform, with the #choppedsandwich hashtag filled with various creative interpretations.
Creators claim this method offers a more even distribution of flavors in every bite. After all, it’s essentially a chopped salad in deli sandwich form. Whether for a quick lunch or a picnic in the park, this TikTok trend offers a unique twist on a familiar favorite.
Flying Dutchman burger
Another top 1o food trend on TikTok is the Flying Dutchman burger, originally from In-N-Out. This secret menu item consists of two beef patties with cheese – no bun or veggies.
Users have made the Flying Dutchman with extras like chopped chilies and spread, using the patties as “buns” for cheesy, oniony, and protein-packed meals. The #flyingdutchman hashtag has gone viral, with millions of views as TikTokers share their creative spins on this menu hack as they make it home. This trend also turned the little-known menu item into a keto diet food trend.
Dubai chocolate bar
Another viral sensation taking over TikTok is the indulgent Dubai chocolate bar from Fix Dessert Chocolatier. These aren’t your average candy bars. They’re gooey, crunchy, and loaded with fillings that have captured people’s attention on TikTok worldwide.
What sets these chocolate bars apart is their unique combination of textures and flavors. The trend exploded when food influencer Maria Vehera shared an ASMR video of herself trying one of these treats in her car. The viral Dubai chocolate bar is filled with shredded, crispy filo pastry and pistachio cream. The video got over 56 million views, sparking a wave of reaction videos and homemade recipe attempts across the platform.
This Dubai-born trend has become a must-try for chocolate enthusiasts and content creators, cementing its place as a top 10 food trend.
Swedish candy
Since she started posting them in mid-January, TikTok creator Abigail Feehley’s Swedish candy reviews have exploded on the platform. In them, she tries many different candies while explaining their flavors and textures. Multiple posts have even received over a million views.
Even as I studied abroad in Europe, my FYP was filled with Americans trying this unique candy. What really pulled people into this trend was the unique texture. Unlike those sold in the U.S., many Swedish candies have a marshmallow-y, gummy texture.
As the trend began to blow up, so did Swedish candy stores in the U.S. In a search for Bubs, stores like Sockerbit and BonBon began appearing in major cities. Although still somewhat difficult to find in person (if you don’t live in New York or Los Angeles), the candy is widely accessible online and through various sellers on TikTok.
Egg flights
Egg flights have been popping up all over my FYP. But what exactly is an egg flight? Similar to the concept of a drink flight, it’s basically a variety of hard or soft-boiled eggs with different combinations of toppings. It’s kind of like a lazy person’s deviled egg… but with a twist.
Many different food content creators have taken their own approaches to this trend, introducing their audiences to unique flavor combinations and ingredients. Some have gone the classic route with deviled egg flavors, while others have strayed far from it by adding ingredients like caviar and cottage cheese to their flights.
Cucumber salad
Last but definitely not least on our list of the top 10 food trends on TikTok right now is cucumber salad. The 23-year-old content creator, Logan Moffitt, said, “Sometimes you need to eat an entire cucumber” in a video of a cucumber salad recipe he shared on TikTok in early July.
In the video, he slices an entire cucumber with a mandolin for his salad. He then mixes all of the ingredients together in a deli container. After a few minutes of shaking, he dives into his cucumber creations with chopsticks.
This video started the trend, filling FYPs nationwide. He has made many different variations of his cucumber salad, from lox bagel-inspired to Asian-inspired Korean cucumber salad classics. This unique food trend on TikTok has become a staple in households and college dorms everywhere, including mine.
