Jerry Van Dyke dead

Jerry Van Dyke has passed away at the age of 86. The younger brother of Dick Van Dyke was a comedian and actor in his own right.

Jerry appeared on several episodes of “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” He showcased his banjo skills to the delight of the stars and the television audience. He also worked with Andy Griffith and appeared in guest roles on “Mary Tyler Moore,” “Fantasy Island,” “Newhart,” “The Love Boat,” and “Charles in Charge.”

Video of one of Jerry’s appearance on “The Dick Van Dyke Show” can be viewed below.

Jerry stole our hearts as Luther on “Coach.” He was nominated for four Emmys on this show that lasted nine seasons. In the video below, Van Dyke gets concerned about the size of the football players. He is concerned that people have gotten so big that over time, we won’t fit in our homes. He even takes it a step further! Watch the video below to hear this slippery slope argument!

His final TV role was in “The Middle.” Jerry appeared in eight episodes of “The Middle.” In the last of those eight episodes, Jerry was joined by his older brother Dick. The pair sang the song “Two Of A Kind.” Video of that performance is below.

Jerry continued acting until about two years ago when he was involved in a bad car accident. The car accident left him in bad health and possibly contributed to his death.

At least three actors from “The Dick Van Dyke Show” have passed away in the last year. At the end of last January, Mary Tyler Moore died. Then, on December 28th, Rose-Marie passed away. Now, Jerry Van Dyke is gone, too.

Many of the legendary actors we knew growing up have said theirĀ final goodbyes but we will never forget the impact they had on our lives.
