Pat Sajak is calling on fans of “Wheel Of Fortune” to show a little compassion after the popular game show went viral for all the wrong reasons this week after three contestants each tried and failed to solve this nearly completed puzzle: “Another feather in your cap.”
Humiliating ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Moment – Fans Mock Contestants
“Another feather in your hat,” one of the contestants incorrectly guessed. From there, they tried “map” and “lap” before one of them finally managed to get the puzzle right.
Unfortunately for them, however, it was far too late, and the moment was widely mocked online.

After TodayInSports called the game show gaffe the “worst 2 minutes in the history of Wheel of Fortune”, NBA contributor Warren Shaw mocked the contestants on his Twitter:
This might have been the worst two minute stretch in Wheel of Fortune history 😂 pic.twitter.com/lz6HynkkF5

From there, Twitter users continued to pile on:
A woman on Wheel of Fortune got this puzzle wrong three times. I’m yelling at the television like I’m watching a football game. pic.twitter.com/z97nubCC7G

I'd like to solve… ANOTHER FEATHER IN EVERYTHING BUT YOUR CAP.
Thank you, Wheel, for not editing out 6 of these 8 lost turns in a row like you normally would.#WheelofFortune pic.twitter.com/7MByDsn32p

The woman on Wheel of Fortune got not one but TWO chances to solve this. First time, she said “…in your LAP.” Second time, she said “MAP.”

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Pat Sajak Calls For Compassion
The mockery was so far-reaching that ‘Wheel of Fortune’ host Pat Sajak finally stepped in to urge fans to be kinder to the contestants in this situation.
“It always pains me when nice people come on our show to play a game and win some money and maybe fulfill a lifelong dream, and are then subject to online ridicule when they make a mistake or something goes awry,” Sajak said, according to Entertainment Tonight.
“Sitting at home, it seems incredible that they couldn’t solve it, but I knew in real time what was happening,” he continued, going on to say that the contestants were “stunned” because a lot of people use the phrase “feather in your hat.”

Sajak added:
“Now imagine you’re on national TV, and you’re suddenly thrown a curve and you begin getting worried about looking stupid, and if the feather isn’t in your hat, where the heck can it be? You start flailing away looking for alternatives rather than synonyms for ‘hat.'”
“And, of course, when it’s solved, you want to crawl in a hole. I’ve been praised online for ‘keeping it together’ and not making fun of the players. Truth is, all I want to do is help to get them through it and convince them that those things happen even to very bright people.”
Fans ‘Can’t Begin To Appreciate’ How Hard Being On The Show Is
Longtime host Pat Sajak then said that those watching the show “can’t begin to appreciate” how stressful actually appearing on it is for the contestants.
“I have fun with players and I tease them occasionally, but when things go wrong, I feel for them, and I try to salve the wounds on camera and off. So, yeah, it was an oddly entertaining puzzle and it’s okay to laugh at the situation. But have a little heart,” he concluded. “After all, you may be there one day. And no one wants to be trending on Twitter.”
Curious how often this type of thing happens? Here’s a look at some of the worst “Wheel Of Fortune” fails through the years.
ET even did a segment about this most recent puzzle. Seems”another feather in your cap” was quite the stumper. You can watch their report in the video below.
The world is a tough enough place right now without people constantly hating on each other.
God bless Pat Sajak for reminding us all that we could all use a little more compassion in our lives!
