The country music world is in mourning this week after singer Walker Hayes announced that his newborn daughter passed away just hours after she was born on Wednesday.
“It is with great sadness that Laney and I share with you the news that our sweet Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born this morning at the hospital and now is safely in heaven,” Hayes wrote on Instagram, according to Daily Mail. He then asked for privacy for himself and his beloved wife Laney at this difficult time.
Hayes and his wife had previously said that they planned for her to give birth at home on June 8 to avoid the stress of driving to the hospital. Already the parents of six children, Hayes and Laney wanted this seventh birth to be different.
“We’ve almost had a couple in the car, and I’m not the guy you want to have a kid in the car with. I’m pretty chill, but once birth starts I go the opposite of chill,” he said.
Hayes has often talked about how much he loves his six children and his desire to expand his family even more.
“They’re so cute about it. They look at me like I’m Adam Levine,” he told People last year. “They’re just kids, but them being proud of me means so much to me, and I can tell that they are. They are my favorite things about life. I love each and every one of these kids and I can’t wait for another one. They’re all so beautiful and incredible, and watching them grow is the best thing I get to do on earth.”
It’s hard to find the words to say at times like this when God has taken a child back to Heaven far too soon. While it may be hard to see God’s plan now, it’s important to remember that the Lord always has one and that little Oakleigh is safe with him now.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4
