It’s been three months since the final episode of Tom Selleck’s hit television show Blue Bloods aired. This was bad news for Selleck, who made very clear that he wanted to continue doing the hit show – or failing that, start a new show.
Now, Selleck has gotten his wish! He’s preparing to return to television for the first time since the cancellation of Blue Bloods.
Selleck Returns To TV
Selleck, 80, is officially taking on a new installment in his Jesse Stone television movie franchise. While few details are available about the project, it is officially in development, according to Selleck’s IMDB page.
The Jesse Stone TV movie franchise is based on the detective novels, which were written by Michael Brandman and Robert Parker. Selleck plays the title character of Jesse Stone, a former minor league baseball shortstop and police chief who struggles with addiction. Meanwhile, he fights crime in the fictional town of Paradise, Massachusetts.
This will be the tenth installment in the Jesse Stone franchise, which airs on the Hallmark Channel. The last Jesse Stone movie was Lost in Paradise, which aired way back in 2015.
The official synopsis of the upcoming Jesse Stone movie reads: “Paradise Police Chief Jesse Stone is experiencing a familiar ennui-writing parking tickets and bemoaning his presence in a small town where “nothing much” ever seems to happen. Suddenly Jesse is swept up in the exigencies of making sense of an unexplained death – was it a suicide or, as Jesse suspects, a murder?”
Sounds right up his alley!

Selleck Has No Plans To Retire
After the cancellation of Blue Bloods, Selleck insisted that he has no plans to retire. He made it clear that he wants to keep working, he just didn’t know what his next project would be. It seems perfect that he gets to play another policeman.
“I wouldn’t say [offers] are pouring in, but maybe some people are thinking of me,” Selleck told Parade back in December.
“I don’t know where my next job will take me. People ask, ‘What do you want to do next?’ I’m not sure. I don’t want to do Frank Reagan II,” he continued, referring to his iconic Blue Bloods character.
When asked if he’d be open to doing a Blue Bloods spinoff, Selleck replied, “I’m open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked. I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere. If he goes off to a small town, I’d rather do more Jesse Stone movies.”
“It would be an interesting challenge because Jesse is older now,” Selleck added. “There’ve been quite a few years between shows. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a viable character. Everywhere I go one of the things I get asked is, “When can I see another Jesse Stone?”
It seems that Jesse Stone fans can now rest assured that another movie is definitely happening!
Blue Bloods Spinoff
This comes after a Blue Bloods spinoff was announced that will star Selleck’s co-star Donnie Wahlberg, 55. An insider told Closer Weekly last month that Selleck is “very happy” for his onscreen son Wahlberg.
“They still talk all the time so he’s known about this before almost anyone and he’s been very encouraging,” the source said of Selleck and Wahlberg. “Tom is happy that the network isn’t letting this franchise totally die. He still doesn’t get why it had to end, but he’s had to accept it.”
Despite being busy with Jesse Stone, Selleck is open to playing some kind of role in this spinoff.
“The details of the show and how much, or how little, Tom will be involved are still all under wraps, but Tom very openly supportive and pleased,” the insider concluded.

It’s no secret that Selleck was left devastated when Blue Bloods was cancelled. We’re glad to see that he’s staying busy, and we can’t wait to see his next Jesse Stone movie!
