
Just before the last episodes in Season 3, The Gilded Age has been renewed for a fourth season through HBO Max. The period drama created by Julian Fellowes has quickly become a phenomenon for viewers, who anxiously await the last couple of episodes to round out Season 3.

What is The Gilded Age About?
The Gilded Age show takes place during a period of great economic change and clashes between the old and new systems of living in New York City.
Set in 1882, young Marian Brook must move to New York City to live with her aunts after her father’s death. Accompanied by aspiring writer Peggy Scott, Marian gets entangled in a social war between one of her aunts and her rich neighbors.
Marian must decide to follow the established rules of society or make her own path.
Current Events in Season 3
Currently in Season 3, the Opera War has ended. The old guard is weakened, and the Russells are ready to take their place at the head of society. Bertha aims for a prize that would elevate the family, while George risks everything on a scheme that could revolutionize the railroad industry or ruin him completely.
Turmoil stretches across the street in the Brook household. Agnes refuses to accept Ada’s new position as lady of the house. As New York continues to push towards the future, ambition may come at the cost of what the main characters hold dear.

Success of the Show
While it didn’t start so, The Gilded Age has quickly become a huge hit. First launching on HBO’s lower-profile Monday night slot, the series earned a Season 2 renewal. It was later moved to HBO’s marquee Sunday night slot.
As for Season 3 viewership, it continues to grow. Episode 5 drew a series high of 4 million U.S. cross-platform viewers within its first three days of availability.
When interviewed about the show’s success, Francesca Orsi, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, stated:
“We couldn’t be prouder of the undeniable viewership heights The Gilded Age has achieved this season. Transporting us to the 1880s New York City, Julian Fellowes and the enormously talented cast and crew have created a “can’t-miss it” entertainment experience from week to week, and we’re delighted to continue exploring these characters’ grand ambitions for what we promise will be a thrilling fourth season.”
The series has also received seven Emmy nominations to date and one SAG Award nomination.
