It’s been one month since the finale of the first season of The Landman, and fans of the show are champing at the bit for more.

Yet, at the time of this writing, Paramount+ has yet to officially renew the show for a second season. However, it is widely believed that the show will be coming back. Indeed, season one ended with many aspects of the plot unresolved, leaving fans hungrier than ever for a second season.

Here’s everything you need to know about the potential The Landman season two.

Is The Landman Returning?

While Paramount+ has yet to confirm a second season of The Landman, the network has claimed that the show is its most-watched original to date. The series premiere brought in a whopping 5.2 million viewers. This made The Landman the biggest Paramount+ premiere in two years.

On top of that, the show saw 14.6 million global multiplatform viewers in its first seven days being available on streaming. Throughout the rest of the season, The Landman continued to have a high placement on the Nielsen streaming chart. This would all make it especially shocking if Paramount+ declined to bring it back for a second season.

Another season of The Landman might already secretly be in the works behind the scenes. In May of 2024, The Landman star Demi Moore told Deadline that she expected to start filming Season 2 of the show in early 2025.

“I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second which will be at the beginning of next year,” she said at the time.

Billy Bob Thornton Weighs In

In August of 2024, The Landman star Billy Bob Thornton made similar comments to Moore’s.

“I understand that if we’re going to do that — season 2 — that it’s going to be sometime around February, March, somewhere in there,” Thornton said at the time. “I mean, we’ll see. It just depends on how the chips may fall, you never know in this business.”

Thornton discussed the potential plot of The Landman season 2 in another interview last month.

“Taylor keeps it pretty close to the vest until it’s time… when he knows it’s time, he’ll let me know,” Thornton told Deadline. This was a reference to The Landman creator Taylor Sheridan, who is also behind the hit show Yellowstone.

“And when he lets me know, he really lets me know the whole thing,” Thornton continued. “It’s kind of like you want to get all the dust out of the corners before the family gets home when you’re cleaning the house. He really wants it to be where it’s supposed to be before any of us hear about it.”

Other The Landman Stars Speak Out

Also last month, The Landman star Ali Larter claimed to Elle that the production timeline for season 2 has already been set. She’s eager for Paramount+ to confirm a second The Landman season publicly, telling the network to “just announced it!”

Earlier this month, The Landman actress Michelle Randolph was asked directly about a potential season two by Town & Country.

“I am just really excited that people love it so much, and I think that if we get a chance to keep doing it, I’ll do it as long as Taylor lets us,” she said in response.

Perhaps the biggest indicator that The Landman season two is happening is that it was recently spotted on the production list on the Film & Television Industry Alliance. According to that list, production is scheduled to begin on Friday, February 28, 2025.

In the end, while Paramount+ has yet to confirm a second season of The Landman, fans can rest assured that it will probably be happening. We can’t wait to see where this incredible show takes us next!
