The beloved television show Yellowstone came to an end on Sunday night with the finale of the fifth and final season of the hit series. Unfortunately, fans are fuming over the way the show concluded. Some have gone so far as to brand this finale as being “the worst in television history.”

Yellowstone Series Finale
Heading into the finale, the big question was whether or not Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) would controversially rescue the Dutton family ranch by parting ways with it.
Despite what many viewers were hoping for, Kayce decided to sell the land back to its original owners, the Broken Rock Native American tribe. He sold it for just $1.25 per acre, the same rate that his ancestors paid when they seized the territory in 1883. This meant that the most expensive ranch in Montana sold for just $1.1 million.
Meanwhile, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) followed through with her promise to kill her brother Jamie, stabbing him to death in a brutal altercation. She and her new husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) then bought a new ranch for themselves, laying the groundwork for a new life that will be shown in their upcoming spinoff series.

Livid Yellowstone Fans Sound Off
Yellowstone fans, however, have let it be known that they were left bitterly disappointed by this ending.
“That was probably the worst final season in television history,” one disgruntled fan commented. Another bluntly added, “Dumb ending #Yellowstone #YellowstoneTV.”
“It is official. Game of Thrones is no longer the worst final season of any TV show ever,” a third enraged fan went so far as to state. “Yellowstone has taken that award.”
A fourth fan agreed, lamenting, “What a disaster of a final season. #Yellowstone #YellowstoneTV.”
Yet another fan went more in-depth about what exactly may have gone wrong this season.
“I felt like it was entirely too rushed. The whole season, the guys leaving, everything,” this fan explained. “The plot with Jamie and the kill for hire was way to rushed, it ended way too quickly and easily. Just all around felt like it was a lazy, last minute put together.”
Yellowstone show-runners were indeed put in a difficult position when it came to ending this series. The show’s longtime star Kevin Costner, who played Dutton family patriarch John Dutton, declined to return to to finish out the second half of the final season because filming conflicted with his four-part Western epic movie series Horizon.
This left Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan scrambling to figure out a way to end this iconic show. That was undoubtedly no easy task!

Some Fans Enjoyed The Yellowstone Finale
While the majority of the reactions appear to be negative, Sheridan will be happy to see that some fans still enjoyed the series finale.
“#YellowstoneTV Finale was perfection! Beth killing Jamie and RIP bringing him to the train station, Kaycee ‘giving’ the lad back and all of the cowboys honoring John Dutton…was the best ending ever!” one fan gushed
“Just wrapped up Yellowstone. Damn that was a good final season,” another satisfied fan added. A third concluded, “Beautiful final scenes of Beth’s and Kayce’s ranches. Thank you, @Yellowstone for wrapping things up so beautifully.”
Those who are still fans of Yellowstone will be happy to learn that the saga of the Dutton family is not yet over. A spinoff starring Beth (Reilly) and Rip (Hauser) has been officially confirmed, with other stars of the flagship series expected to appear as well.
After a seemingly lackluster series finale, it will certainly be interesting to see where Sheridan takes things from here!
