In a world where streaming and broadcast TV are constantly competing for views, CBS’s long-running reality series Survivor has continued to increase its popularity.
Despite the Emmy Awards not mirroring viewership numbers, a recent Nielsen report named Survivor as the most-watched Emmy-nominated show across several key categories during the eligibility period.
The show accumulated 462.4 million total viewing hours, more than double that of any other contender for best drama, comedy, limited, or reality competition series. Learn more about the show’s impact here.

Availability Across Multiple Platforms
One of the main reasons why there is significant Survivor viewership is due to its availability across multiple platforms. The entire library of 48 past seasons is available on Paramount+, with some seasons on Hulu and The Roku Channel.
This doesn’t include the two cycles totaling 27 episodes within the eligibility window for viewing hours. The multi-platform presence increases the show’s reach beyond traditional methods.
Other Popular Series
In comparison, the next most-watched series was The White Lotus, with 210.7 million viewing hours. While it is the top drama nominee, it still pulled in less than half the total viewing hours of Survivor.
ABC’s Abbott Elementary snatched the comedy category with 184.1 million hours, and the limited or anthology series was topped by Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story with 149.5 million hours.

Increase in Popularity

The phenomenon of Survivor was strengthened in the 2024-2025 television season. Industry reports reveal the show’s dominance in key demographics, landing as the number one entertainment series among adults aged 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54. These numbers have not been seen since the second season in 2000-2001.
Additionally, the 2024-2025 finale episode saw a 19% increase in viewers week-over-week, making it the most-watched Wednesday on CBS since December 2023.
Individual episodes also earned their place in the limelight. One March 2025 episode grabbed 4.77 million viewers, a 14% increase over the season average, leading the evening in the adults 18-49 demographic.
Streaming platforms mirror cable’s success, with a 13% increase in live streaming audiences during the same period, proving Survivor’s cross-platform appeal.
Broader Impact
The impressive numbers from Survivor had a broader impact on CBS’s overall ratings as well. Season 48’s premiere in February 2025 launched CBS to the top spot across all prime-time demos, earning a total viewership of 3.444 million and leading ratings within adult demographics.
This helped CBS lead not only in Survivor’s time slot but also in multiplatform viewership data for the 2024-2025 season. Nielsen’s data shows CBS holding six of the top eight series across platforms, and 11 of the top 20 overall.
While shows like The White Lotus, Severance, The Pitt, and Andor command lots of attention within the drama genre, none have touched the combined broadcast and streaming dominance created by Survivor.
Other Emmy contenders in comedy and limited series categories also drew impressive, yet comparatively smaller, audiences.

The Perfect Mix

Even in the unscripted world, Survivor maintains an impressive impact, ranking third among unscripted shows with 4.43 million views during early May 2025. This only reflects a dedicated audience, even in a crowded content marketplace.
Nielsen’s data just goes to show that Survivor, a veteran reality TV series, continues to prove its worth through a blend of broadcast scheduling and an expansive streaming library.
The approach not only draws in raw viewing hours but also a large engagement across vital demographics, ensuring the show’s continuation on CBS for years to come.
