The late night television personality Jimmy Kimmel has hosted the Academy Awards four times. Most recently, he hosted the Oscars ceremony back in March. This was the second year in a row that he hosted.

It’s just been revealed that in 2025, however, Kimmel will not be hosting the Oscars.

Kimmel Turns Down Oscars Offer

Kimmel, 56, turned down an offer to host the Academy Awards again next year. Deadline has since learned that Kimmel made this decision months ago, before he went on his annual summer hiatus.

The comedian John Mulaney, 41, also passed on an offer to host the Oscars. He reportedly waited until Kimmel declined to turn down his own offer as well.

This came after Mulaney presented at the Oscars back in March. During the ceremony, he brought the house down with a Kevin Costner-approved bit about Field of Dreams.

“I couldn’t believe that guy. Amazing,” Costner, 69, gushed afterwards backstage. “I watched it a second time… What a chance, because there’s always people in the Oscars trying to rush you. And he went fast. But what he said, I was very touched by it. I should talk to him because I was really impressed. He was a genius.”

Kimmel’s Previous Hosting Gigs

Kimmel had previously hosted the Oscars in 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2024. He also has hosted the Emmy Awards three times. The Emmys are still looking for a host for this year, with the show set to take place on September 15.

Before hosting the Oscars for the fourth time back in March, Kimmel claimed that he decided to return because he was a fan of the movies that were up for the coveted awards this year.

“There were some really good movies …I think they’re all really good. I saw them all,” Kimmel told ABC News. “It’s a big part of why I decided to host the show this year, because I do know that there are movies that people have actually seen, which makes it a lot easier to make jokes about.”

When asked if he planned to eventually host the Oscars for a fifth time, Kimmel played coy.

“I’m not going to say I won’t host the Oscars again,” he said. “I’m definitely not going to say I will host the Oscars again. I don’t even know if I’ll be asked, this [year] could be a disaster and they go, ‘Ok, that’s enough.'”

Oscars 2024 Ratings

The Oscars ended up going well this year, with the show having the highest viewership numbers in four years-a sharp turnaround from declining numbers. A total of 19.5 million people tuned in, up from 18.8 million the year before. The top award of the night was Best Picture, and it was won by the film Oppenheimer, which managed to beat out the popular Barbie movie.

The 97th annual Oscars ceremony is set to take place on March 2. The show is scheduled to air at 7 p.m. ET on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, California.

Unfortunately for Kimmel fans, the late night host likely won’t be there!
