Shannen Doherty, who is best known for starring on the 1990s television show “Beverly Hills 90210,” revealed to her fans today that her cancer has returned. She has been diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and is dying.

Doherty Opens Up About Her Cancer Diagnosis

Daily Mail reported that Doherty made this revelation during an interview with “Good Morning America” that aired this morning. Hours later, lawyers for the 48-year-old actress said in court papers that she is dying. Sadly, her 90210 co-star Luke Perry died last year.

“It’s going to come out in a matter of days or week that I am Stage 4, my cancer came back and that’s why I am here,” Doherty said.

The “Charmed” star was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but the cancer went into remission in 2017. Unfortunately, the cancer came back aggressively last year, and Doherty has been battling it privately since then. Doherty only decided to go public with her diagnosis this week because she is in the midst of a court battle with the insurance company State Farm over damage to her home from a fire in 2018.

“It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,” Doherty said. “I’m petrified. I’m pretty scared.”

Doherty’s Lawsuit Against State Farm

Lawyers said bluntly in court papers that “Shannen Doherty is dying of stage 4 terminal cancer.”

“Instead of living out her remaining years peacefully in her home, Ms Doherty remains displaced and battling with her insurance company to pay for the repairs necessary to fix the damage her home and personal belongings sustained in the Woolsey Fire in November 2018,” the lawyers wrote.

Doherty explained in her interview that she wanted to get ahead of her court filings that would reveal her cancer so she could “control the narrative.’

“I’d rather people hear it from me. I don’t want it to be twisted, a court document. I want it to be real and authentic,” she said. “I want to control the narrative. I want people to know from me.”

She went on to add that the lawsuit against State Farm has been a nightmare for her.

“My house was severely damaged. You walked in and it just reeked of smoke. I tried – I communicated with my insurance company,” she recalled of the fire. “I called, I got passed around, claims adjuster or to claims adjuster. I ended up suing State farm and the result has been one of the most horrific processes I have ever been through.”

Doherty Is Worried About Her Family

Doherty also said that she is worried about her beloved mother Rosa, and her husband, film producer Kurt Iswarienko.

“My mom is a ridiculously strong courageous human being. So is my husband, but I worry about him,” she said.

Even though Doherty’s cancer had returned, she went ahead with filming on BH20910 – the Beverly Hills 90210 reboot – to show the world that people who have Stage IV cancer “still have some living to do.” However, the show was cancelled in November 2019

“When I finally do come out, I will have worked and 16 hours a day and people can say, ‘oh my god she can work and other people with stage IV can work too,'” Doherty concluded. “Our life doesn’t end when we get that diagnosis. We still have some living to do.”

Please keep Doherty and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
