The convicted felon Anna Delvey had a shocking reaction to becoming the first contestant to be eliminated from Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday night. The unusual choice for the competition was taken out in a double elimination with the former Beverly Hills 90210 star Tori Spelling.
Delvey Gets Eliminated
At the end of Tuesday’s show, Delvey, 33, and her partner, Ezra Sosa, 23, were eliminated alongside with Tori Spelling, 51, and Pasha Pashkov, 38. Afterwards, host Julianne Hough asked Delvey what she will be taking away from her experience competing on the ABC reality television show.
“Nothing,” Delvey bluntly responded.
“There you have it, absolutely nothing,” Hough, 36, replied as Sosa looked visibly stunned.
“You had fun, stop it,” host Alfonso Ribeiro chastised Delvey, who appeared to stand by her statement.
Spelling’s Heartfelt Reaction
Delvey’s reaction was all the more jarring, given the fact that it came after Spelling had a heartfelt reaction to being eliminated.
“I’m just gonna stay here. So, sorry, you’re stuck with me,” Spelling said, indicating that she felt she had more to give to the competition.
Spelling then shared an inspiring message to her five young children, who were in the audience supporting her.
“I love you,” she told them. “You can do anything you put your mind to.”
Controversy Surrounding Delvey
Many felt that Delvey should not have been cast on Dancing With The Stars in the first place. In 2019, she was convicted of attempted grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services. Delvey was subsequently sentenced to four to 12 years in prison, though she was released on parole in March of 2021 for good behavior.
Unfortunately for Delvey, she was then taken into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa. She has been under house arrest in New York City ever since, which is why she competed on Dancing With The Stars while wearing an ankle monitor.
After being cast on Dancing With The Stars, Delvey later told People Magazine that she had been given special permission from ICE to compete. This enraged many, including the actress and media personality Whoopi Goldberg.
“I think back to all the families who’ve had family members arrested by ICE, who have gone to the courts to get their dad or their mother or their brother back,” Goldberg said earlier this month. “And this woman, they gave her permission to go do this. Now, should I think there’s a reason. Is there a two-tiered system here with ICE?”
Watch Goldberg talk more about this in the video below.
Delvey’s Previous Comments
Before her elimination, Delvey told Entertainment Weekly that winning Dancing With The Stars would mean “nothing really” to her.
“I don’t know,” she continued. “It would be great.”
Meanwhile, Sosa chimed in to reveal where Delvey would put the coveted mirrorball trophy if she won.
“She said if she won, she’d put it in storage,” he admitted. “But I’ll put mine on the mantle. I’ll make sure it gets some sunlight.”
Well, it certainly looks like neither of them will need to worry about that now!
With Delvey and Spelling are out, there are eleven celebrities left competing on season 33 of Dancing With The Stars. The show airs simultaneously on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. It should be noted that there will be no new episode on Tuesday, October 1, so the next episode will air on October 8.
