Pippa Middleton Kate Middleton

News has leaked as to why Meghan Markle wasn’t at Pippa Middleton’s wedding. There was a lot of chatter about it at the time with many wondering if it was a snub. However, the Middletons had a rather solid reason for wanting Meghan to skip the wedding ceremony.

Royal watchers are obsessed with the Mountbatten-Windsor family. Meghan was a new arrival to the Royal scene when Pippa married James Matthews in 2017 an there was a concern the American actress and future wife of Prince Harry would upstage the bride with her mere presence.

Harry and Meghan had just come out of the closet with their relationship and the world was interested in this American divorcee that had a hold on Princess Diana’s youngest son. Had Meghan been at the church for the nuptials, the media and crowd would have focused on her.

After all, the Royals hadn’t been romantically involved with a divorced American since King Edward VII abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson. That scandal rocked the Royal Family leading to Queen Elizabeth’s father to be crowned King. Much has changed in the decades since then and the public was eager to have a front row seat.

The Sun’s Royal correspondent Emily Andrews shared, “Meghan faced some opposition from the Middleton family, who didn’t want to invite her to Pippa’s wedding last May. They feared Meghan’s first public appearance with Prince Harry would overshadow the bride’s big day.”

Harry attended both the wedding and the reception, but Meghan only was at the evening’s festivities. This kept all eyes on the bride.

When your sister is in line to be the Queen of England, there is enough pressure to not be upstaged. Tossing Meghan Markle into that church would have led all eyes off the bride! At least Meghan was able to attend the reception.

The video below details how it was noticeable that the future Duchess was missing at the church.
