Over the past few years, various “woke” entertainment journalists have been calling for James Bond to be played by a woman.

Now, with Daniel Craig leaving the Bond franchise after his new movie No Time To Die, longtime James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is weighing in to reveal if this will ever actually happen.

Broccoli Weighs In On Female Bond

Thankfully, Broccoli is letting the world know that the next actor to play the iconic character of Bond will not be a woman.

“I think it will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond,” Broccoli told The Hollywood Reporter. “I believe in making characters for women and not just having women play men’s roles. I don’t think there are enough great roles for women, and it’s very important to me that we make movies for women about women.”

She also said that while the next Bond actor will certainly be British, she left the door open for him not being white.

“British can be any [ethnicity or race],” Broccoli added.

Broccoli On Amazon Acquisition

In this same interview, Broccoli talked about Amazon’s recent $8.45 billion acquisition of Hollywood studio MGM, which has control of the Bond movies.

“We knew that the studio would eventually be sold and Amazon was always one of the [companies]that was being considered. So, our feeling is that we do what we do and we’ve been told that things are not going to change,” she explained.

“I’ve never spoken to Jeff Bezos. We haven’t really had any discussions, and we probably won’t until next year when the sale is approved,” Broccoli added. “But as far as we know, [Bond 26] will be an MGM film under an Amazon banner.”

James Bond Goes ‘Woke’

No Time To Die was widely seen as the most “woke” Bond movie ever. It included a black female 007 character and made the character Q a gay man. This appears to have backfired on the Bond franchise because the movie ended up underperforming at the global box office.

Craig had starred as Bond in the last five movies in the franchise. He has said that No Time To Die would be his last one. Names that have been floated as possible replacements for him include Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and even Idris Elba, who would be the first black Bond if he took over the role.

Given how “woke” No Time To Die was, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if producers go that route, even though it would likely blow up in their faces.
