Morgan Wallen Wins Top Honor At ACM Awards After Being Banned Last Year For Racial Slur

One year after he was targeted by cancel culture for being caught on camera saying the N-word, country singer Morgan Wallen won Album of the Year at the American Country Music Awards. Last year, he was removed from the ACM’s ballot for using the racial slur.

Outsider reported that Wallen, 28, took home the coveted award for his album “Dangerous: The Double Album.” The other nominees in this category that Wallen came out on top of were Carly Pearce’s “29: Written in Stone,” Thomas Rhett’s “Country Again: Side A,” Chris Young’s “Famous Friends,” and Miranda Lambert’s “The Marfa Tapes.”

Wallen’s Acceptance Speech

In his acceptance speech, Wallen said that his main focus right now is being a father to his one-year-old son Indigo, who he shares with ex-girlfriend KT Smith.

“When I started this album, I was a kid,” Wallen said after taking the stage to accept the award at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. “By the time I put it out, I was a father. That’s become more important to me than anything else.”

Wallen went on to say that he wants his son to know that he’s a fighter, something that he’s showed as he’s battled cancel culture over the past year.

“To my son, this album and this award will signify that his daddy was a fighter,” he continued. “And he chased his dreams and worked hard to make them a reality.”

Wallen Shows His Humble Side

Wallen knows that he didn’t get to where he is today on his own. And, he made sure to give shout outs to the people who have stood by him and helped him along the way. 

“I want to say a special thank you to all of the songwriters, producers, and musicians that played on this album,” he stated. “I wish you were standing here next to me now. This project would not be complete without each of them.”

Wallen concluded by showcasing his Christian faith before giving a heartfelt thank you to his family, friends, and fans.

“I’d also like to thank my good lord and savior Jesus Christ, my family, my friends, my team in Nashville, country radio, and everyone who has shown me grace along the way,” he said. “Most importantly, I have to address my fans personally and directly: thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Wallen made a huge mistake when he was caught on camera using a racial slur after a night out with friends in February of last year. Since then, he’s apologized, gone to rehab, and has donated money to civil rights groups.
