Meghan McCain shocked everyone last summer when she abruptly quit her gig as the token conservative on the ABC talk show “The View.” Now, she’s revealing the one comment that her liberal co-host Joy Behar made that led to her quitting.

Behar Caused McCain To Quit

While appearing on “The Commentary Magazine Podcast” on Thursday, McCain explained that a comment Behar made to her when the conservative returned from maternity leave in January 2021 after giving birth to her daughter, Liberty, caused her to realize hosting “The View” just wasn’t worth it.

“I finally went back to the show, and the day I went back to the show, Joy Behar said on air, ‘Nobody missed you, we didn’t miss you, you shouldn’t have come back,’” recalled McCain, 37. “And I just … I started hysterically crying. Sorry gentlemen, I know, I started lactating on air, and I started crying.”

McCain went on to remember that she ran back to her office and threw up before calling her brother, who advised her that it was time to leave “The View.”

“I didn’t feel supported when I had my baby, and I didn’t feel supported coming back, and that was ultimately it,” she continued. “That was why I left!”

McCain Sounds Off On Whoopi Goldberg

Page Six reported that since she left “The View” in July of last year, McCain has been open about how difficult her time on the show was for her, often blaming Behar and co-host Whoopi Goldberg for her negative experience.

“The thing about Whoopi, though, is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table,” McCain said in her audio memoir, “Bad Republican.”

“I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on and it became more frequent,” she added. “Occasionally, if the show’s political discourse veered into territory that she found disagreeable, Whoopi would cut me off, sometimes harshly.”

McCain’s Replacements On ‘The View’

This comes after Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin were named as McCain’s permanent replacements on the show. Because Navarro also works for CNN, however, she will not be serving on the panel every day.

“I can’t say how much I’ve learned from all of you and hope to learn from all of you,” Griffin said, adding that she is “so proud to have found [her] voice” and “hopefully bring a different perspective.”

“If there is one thing I believe, there is more that unites this country than divides it,” she added. “I think that we can demonstrate at this table which our elective leaders often can’t.”

A source said last month that Griffin, who served in Donald Trump’s White House, “adds a nice dynamic to the table and good conversation” to “The View.”

“[The show has] have a good chunk of conservative viewers, so they need that balance – especially because they tend to slant in the other direction,” this insider said.

Being the token conservative on “The View” is no easy task, as it means having to deal with ignorant liberals like Behar and Goldberg on a daily basis. It’s sadly no surprise that Behar behaved in such a classless way to McCain, who is clearly better off far away from that show.
