Today is Keanu Reeves’s 58th birthday. The beloved actor and action star has been an integral part of Hollywood for over 30 years. Once a punchline and a model of “bad acting,” Reeves has morphed into one of Hollywood’s most beloved and pivotal figures.
Beyond being an excellent action star, Keanu is a genuinely great human who eschews many of the stereotypes of fame. Here are a few of my favorite Keanu Reeves memories.
His Amazing Answer About The After Life
Stephen Colbert tried to trap Reeves in a silly answer when he asked, “What happens when we die?” Reeves’ beautiful and heartfelt response shocked the audience and Colbert, who realized immediately that he’d messed up.
Stephen Colbert : “What happens to us when we die?”
Keanu Reeves: “I know that those who love us will miss us.”

The first time I heard that, it made me emotional. I also got emotional the 50th time I watched that clip. It is so perfect that I am almost angry I didn’t think of it first.
When He Gave Up His Seat On The Subway
Many people think chivalry is dead. Well, don’t tell that to Keanu. He didn’t need to give up his seat, and no one would have thought anything of it if he hadn’t; his insistence on being a gentleman should be a note to every other man out there.
Keanu Reeves:
– Starred in the Matrix
– Starred in John Wick
– Starring in #ToyStory4
– Has a net worth of $390 million dollars
– Is still the kind of guy who’ll give his seat to you while riding the NYC subway train to work pic.twitter.com/UiadxdrogF— Muhammad Lila (@MuhammadLila) June 13, 2019
His Fight For His Sister
Not only is he a chivalrous and thoughtful person, but he is also a fighter for those he cares about.
Keanu Reeves opened up on throwing everything behind sister’s successful cancer battle . A heart of gold https://t.co/JujDDP1Rat

“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research.
“I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”
Many celebrities like to make a big deal of how generous they are, and often spend more time promoting their charitable works than they do actually engaging with them. Keanu seems to do the exact opposite.
This Fight Scene From John Wick
I would be remiss if I didn’t end this with at least one fight scene from the John Wick series. Reeves has almost single-handedly revived the martial arts genre in America with his realistic fights that blend gunplay with Hong Kong-style action and filming. It is hard to pick which one of his sequences from the Wick series I like the most, but the one that always comes to mind is this scene from the first film, where he fights through a bathhouse and a nightclub.
He did all of this while running a 104-degree fever!!
John Wick (2014) Keanu Reeves learned and memorized the nightclub fight sequence the day that the scene was filmed. Also, when they shot the top-level nightclub fight scene, Keanu Reeves had the flu, and was running a 104° fever. pic.twitter.com/R6wvCm5XOV

Keanu Reeves is a true class act, and there isn’t another Hollywood star like him. Happy birthday, Keanu!
