Kate Hudson is speaking out this week to defend her mother Goldie Hawn from claims made in the 1970s that she was “difficult” to work with.

Hudson Defends Hawn

“She decided to tell people that told her to stay in her lane to go f— themselves and basically started producing her own movies, which wasn’t happening at the time,” Hudson, 43, said while appearing on the “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast after host Kelly Ripa, 52, pointed out that Hawn, 77, got her start in Hollywood in a “totally different time” when actresses were only expected to act.

“She had to really fight for a lot of these movies to be made [and] was seen by a lot of people as difficult and complicated because she had a point of view,” Hudson continued.

Hudson went on to recall meeting a man who previously worked with Hawn and described her as being “challenging” to work with. Ripa responded by pointing out that women are often called “difficult” simply for having a point of view.

“I remember thinking, ‘You know, that’s funny, but was she right about what you thought was her being difficult?'” Hudson said. “And he was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I mean she was definitely right. The whole script needed a complete rewrite.'”

“She really was just trying to say, ‘Hey, guys, we should probably re-look at the script.’ … And that is considered complicated, especially in the ’70s and ’80s in Hollywood,” she added.

Hudson then gushed over her mother, saying that she learned “everything” from her.

“I feel so blessed,” she said. “I don’t even know what I must have done in a past life to have been born to her as a mother.”

Hawn’s Foundation

In this same interview, Hudson praised Hawn for starting the MindUp foundation, which she said is now at the “cutting edge” of children’s social emotional learning.

Hudson claimed that people laughed at her mother when she started the foundation because they thought it was “meditation,” but it’s “20 years now, and she’s finally getting her sort of kudos for what she’s been creating, but she doesn’t let up.”

The foundation’s mission statement states that it “is a not-for-profit organization founded to help children develop the knowledge and tools they need to manage stress, regulate emotions and face the challenges of the 21st century with optimism, resilience and compassion.”

Hawn Stays Out Of Politics

Unlike the vast majority of Hollywood stars, Hawn has always remained grounded despite her decades in the industry. While sitting down with Megyn Kelly for a Daily Wire interview last year, Hawn talked about why she makes a point of not lecturing her fans about politics like other celebrities do.

“I think it’s why it drives people crazy when Hollywood tries to act holier than thou and starts lecturing middle America about morality and so on,” Kelly said. “And you know, these people sitting in Iowa who have never done any, they’ve never tried to put someone on a casting couch … They’re like, you could save your lectures for somebody else.”

“That’s right, exactly,” Hawn replied. “And the idea that … I do have a feeling about keeping — Okay, how do I say this?” Hawn said. “A lot of Hollywood has a lot of missions, right? And you know, you want to put your name onto something that you believe in, but it doesn’t make a difference. And that’s the reality.”

“I stay in my lane,” she added. “The reality is, is that if we want to do anything, we want to do it for all people, not just for a group or whatever.”

“What makes polarity even more is creating teams on either side of the aisle,” Hawn concluded. “And I don’t think that’s what we do. I think we entertain. I think we bring awareness to people, just of their ability to laugh, to have joy, to experience it, to cry. We are emotional beings and create emotion in others. And it’s in this case, I think we’re in service. I don’t think we should forget that our first job is to help people laugh, feel something, escape.”

We applaud Hudson for defending her mother, as Hawn does not seem like a “difficult” person at all. In fact, we can’t help but think that the world would be a better place if we had more celebrities like Goldie Hawn!
