The Carol Burnett Show continues to be one of the funniest television program of all time. During its eleven season run from 1967 until 1978, it made millions of Americans laugh. Decades later, the show continues to hold up to this day.
Hilarious ‘The Dentist’ Sketch
One of the funniest sketches on The Carol Burnett Show was so hilarious that it made one participant quite literally wet his pants. Indeed, it has been confirmed that Harvey Korman wet himself because of how funny Tim Conway was being when they performed the dentist sketch together.
“During the rehearsals, I fumbled around looking first in the book and then into Harvey’s mouth as he sat in the dentist’s chair,” Conway later recalled. “When we began taping the scene on Friday, Harvey got in the chair and I began my watch-out-Harvey-here-it-comes routine.”
“If you view the video, you can tell exactly when I start to move away from the script just by the expression on Harvey’s face,” he continued. “I intended to stab my hand with the needle but I didn’t stop there. I jabbed my hand, I jabbed my leg, and I jabbed my head. Harvey sat there in the chair ready to explode, which he did. The poor guy actually wet his pants by the time the sketch ended.”

One Of Burnett’s Favorites
When asked how he felt about making someone else wet his pants, Conway replied, “I’m very proud of that, too because I owned a cleaners at the time.”
Burnett later said that “The Dentist” sketch was her second favorite in the entirety of her show’s history.
“That’s over 50 years old and still one of the funniest things you’ll ever see in sketch comedy,” Burnett recently told Variety. “Poor Harvey was helpless in that chair. And Tim swears Harvey wet his pants.”
The only sketch to top this one in her mind was “As the Stomach Turns: Close Encounters,” a soap opera parody of Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Korman And Conway Are Sadly Deceased
Sadly, both Korman and Conway are no longer with us. Korman died in 2008 at the age of 81 due to complications from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Conway passed away in 2019 at the age of 85 from complications of normal pressure hydrocephalus.
As for Burnett, she’s still going strong at 91. She was recently nominated for an Emmy for her work on the Apple TV+ television show Palm Royale. This officially made Burnett the oldest nominee for acting in Emmy history!
