The Country world was shocked at Troy Gentry’s sudden death in a helicopter crash earlier this month. The spur of the moment ride cost the father of two his life.
Montgomery Gentry had been working on an album at the time of Troy’s death. Eddie Montgomery broke his silence on the tragedy in a statement to a radio station that was sent out with the latest single release.
“I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers,” Montgomery said in the statement, along with the song, “Better Me.” “Our world was turned upside down in an instant, and nothing could have prepared us for this.”
“Over the past few months, me and T-Roy have been working on what I think is the best record of our career,” he continued. “In the last few weeks, we had been talking about what our first single would be. Then on September 8, none of that mattered.”
“‘Better Me’ is a song we all loved. It speaks volumes about his life and who he had become and everybody he touched and how much he loved his family. I am so proud of this song and also to call him my friend, my family, my brother for 30 years,” Montgomery said.
It’s got to be rather jarring releasing a single you wrote with your partner three weeks after his death. Eddie Montgomery and the Gentry family continue needing our prayers.
