Dolly Parton has been entertaining us for decades. She started singing at a young age and isn’t letting up anytime soon! Not only is she a talented singer, but she is such a relatable and caring person who has earned a spot in many of our hearts.
Dolly’s career began at a very young age. Along with her uncle Bill Owens, she wrote “Puppy Love” at the tender age of 13. It was released by Goldband Records in 1959.
Dolly shared this recording to commemorate earning the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. It was likely the first time most of her fans heard the adorable song. Even though she was only 13 when she recorded it, it’s clearly the Dolly Parton we love decades later – cheerful and upbeat! I can just imagine her smiling as she sang it as a young teenager.
You can hear the recording in the video below.
What a perfect start to a career that’s still going strong almost 60 years later! Dolly Parton certainly deserved a lifetime achievement award!
Dolly has never shied away from being herself. She is an eternal optimist, always looking on the bright side. You can see that not only in her music, but also in her interviews. That optimism was on display when Dolly sang “Joshua” at the Grand Ole Opry many years ago. Watch that performance below and see if you can recognize the same cheerfulness that 13-year-old Dolly had when she sang “Puppy Love” at age 13.
