Dolly Parton has been one of the most famous country music stars in the world for decades, but before that, she was just a normal girl from Tennessee.

In a newly surfaced interview from 2005, Parton told a humorous story from her younger days in which she was thrown out of a New York hotel because staffers thought she was a prostitute!

Parton Kicked Out Of New York Hotel

While appearing on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” in 2005, Parton recalled taking a trip to the Big Apple with her childhood best friend Judy.

“The first time I was ever here, I guess it was in the late 60’s, early 70’s, and I had just started making a name in country music,” Parton recounted.

“So of course, all the country girls wanna go to the city, so my girlfriend Judy Ogle and I, we thought, well we’ll just go to New York,” she added. “So we came up here, we didn’t have any money at that time, I was just beginning to make it.”

‘They Threw Us Out’

Unfortunately for Parton, however, she soon learned that she was in for a surprise.

“And so we checked in a hotel, and we’ve been friends since we were little, so we just got one room, and of course, I looked cheaper then than I even do now… and Judy didn’t look any better!” she remembered. “So we check into this hotel and they thought we were hookers.”

“And so we went out lookin’ around in the city and we come back to our room and they had our luggage out in the hall, and they had us locked out, ‘cuz they thought we were turning tricks up there,” Parton continued. “They threw us out!”

Luckily for Parton, she was able to convince the staffers to let them keep their luggage in the lobby while they figured out what to do next. It’s crazy to think that there’s a New York City hotel out there that threw out the legendary Dolly Parton, thinking that she was a hooker!

Parton Reveals What Advice She Ignored

Parton, 76, recently opened up about a piece of advice that she ignored early in her career.

“The main advice that people wanted to give me was to change my look – to go simpler with my hair and the way that I dress, not to look so cheap, nobody was ever going to take me seriously they would say,” Parton said, according to CNBC.

“The way I look and the way I looked then was a country girl’s idea of glam, just like I wrote in my ‘Backwoods Barbie’ song,” she continued. “It was really like a look I was after. I wasn’t a natural beauty. I just like to look the way I look. I’m so outgoing inside, I need the way I look to match all of that.”

Thank goodness Parton ignored this advice, because we love her exactly the way she is. Don’t ever change, Dolly!
