Dean Martin Ella Fitzgerald

The Dean Martin Show” entertained us for nine seasons. Dino brought us the best and brightest Hollywood stars of the day and we loved it.

It was a show the whole family could watch together. There wasn’t violence or crass language. It was family fun, but entertaining enough for people of all ages to enjoy. It was Hollywood at its best.

First Season

During its premiere season, Ella Fitzgerald appeared on the show. No other female singer can compare to her. Her distinct voice was so smooth and pure, and unlike anyone else’s. It was hard to sing a duet with someone that had such a magnificent voice, but Dean Martin joined her when she was on his show, and it was like magic.

The pair sang a montage of Gershwin show tunes that will make you smile, and take you on a trip down memory lane.

You can watch this blockbuster performance in the video below.

Absolutely gorgeous! None of today’s A-listers could perform like Dean Martin and Ella Fitzgerald.

Variety Shows

The variety shows from the 1960s and 1970s were so fun. The biggest stars would show up for a funny skit, or even for a song and dance routine. These shows were always a treat to watch with the entire family, and they have stood the test of time. It’s still terrific watching clips from these shows decades later.

Dean Martin’s Roasts and “The Dean Martin Comedy Hour” brought us so many laughs. He was the consummate entertainer. He could sing, dance, and make us laugh. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a show on television today that comes close to the classics of the 1960s and 1970s.
