Even though it’s now politically incorrect to perform the Christmas classic “Baby It’s Cold Outside” – including being banned by an Ohio radio station – the daughter of Dean Martin vows she will continue singing it anyway.

Deanna Martin told Fox News she’s “proud” the song has become a holiday standard.

“It won the Oscar for ‘Best Original Song’ in the 1949 film ‘Neptune’s Daughter.’ It’s been recorded by dozens of the world’s top recording artists for over 60 years, including my dad Dean Martin,” Martin told Fox News. “This song is included in his very successful 1959 ‘Winter Romance’ album and I’m very proud that it has become an evergreen favorite that is played every holiday season.”

“I personally love performing ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ and will continue to do so”

Martin’s comments come in the wake of controversy. A number of radio stations have decided to stop playing the song during the holiday season, claiming it promotes date rape and sexual harassment.

Breitbart reports that Glenn Anderson, a host on the Ohio radio station WDOK which banned the song, described it as “very manipulative and wrong.”

“Now, I do realize that when the song was written in 1944, it was a different time, but now while reading it, it seems very manipulative and wrong,” Anderson said. “The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended, but in a world where #MeToo has finally given women the voice they deserve, the song has no place.”

“After WDOK pulled the song, stations in Cleveland and Colorado also followed suit, sparking a backlash by listeners on social media,” Breitbart noted.

While it’s good that women who’ve been victims of sexual harassment or violence now have louder voices than ever, that shouldn’t mean that traditions, customs, or even songs that have long been part of our culture should be discarded based on current politics.

If Deanna Martin or anyone else promoting “Baby It’s Cold Outside” meant to harm women in any way that would be one thing, but that is clearly not the case here.

Good for her for standing up to political correctness run amok. No doubt, her father would be proud.
