Former NFL star Colin Kaepernick just suffered further public humiliation this week when the commissioner for the XFL revealed that he was “never really considered” to even join their league.
XFL “Never Really Considered” Colin Kaepernick
Fox News reported that Commissioner Oliver Luck made these comments while appearing on the ESPN Radio’s “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz”. Luck also talked about the XFL’s new rules for their upcoming season, which starts after the Super Bowl.
After explaining that contrary to rumors, he “never really considered” Kaepernick, Luck said he was far more interested in what other quarterbacks could offer the XFL.
“As we put our player pool together, we got the guys in the pool – with support and guidance from our coaches and our personnel people – that wanted to play in our league, that were willing to play for the salaries that we were offering,” Luck said. “We think we got great quarterbacks.”

“If I had to pick a guy I’m most excited to watch it’s Cardale Jones who’s with the D.C. team,” he continued.
“A guy who had a remarkable run back at Ohio State winning the national championship and probably left school a year too early and bounced around the NFL and landed with us. And I can’t wait to see this guy play. He’s such a gifted … physically gifted and mentally smart guy. I’m looking forward to him. I think the quality of guys we have is pretty damn good.”
Kaepernick’s Salary Demands Were Far Too High
Rumors have been swirling for months that Kaepernick would be joining the XFL. However, Luck had told the Tampa Bay Times last month that Kaepernick’s salary demands were far too high for them to actually sign him.
“I think his salary demands are way out of our ballpark. He was never really a viable option,” Luck said.

Kaepernick Is No Martyr
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has not been signed by another team since walking away from a renewal contract after his 2016 season. The infamous season where Kaepernick made headlines back for taking a knee during the national anthem. He knelt to protest against racial inequality in the United States.
Some liberals have turned Kaepernick into a martyr. They claim he has not been signed by another NFL team for racist reasons. However others point out that as QB, Kaepernick led the 49ers to an abysmal losing record in his final season.
Perhaps Kaepernick’s lack of on-field success is also a factor in him not being invited by the XFL.
In the end, for both personality and lack of talent reasons, the XFL is better off without Colin Kaepernick.
