Dan Blocker was an American actor best known for playing the character of Hoss Cartwright in the iconic television show “Bonanza.” Prior to acting, Blocker was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. Blocker served as an infantry sergeant in F Company, 2nd Batallion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division in Korea, from December 1951- August 1952. Blocker received a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in battle.

In addition, Blocker received numerous other awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the United Nations Service Medal.
