Charles Bronson, born Charles Dennis Buchinsky, was an American actor most famous for starring in the films Once Upon a Time in the West, The Magnificent Seven, The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape, Rider on the Rain, The Mechanic, and the Death Wish series.

Before Bronson was an actor, he had a decorated military career, enlisting in the United States Army Air Forces in 1943. Bronson served in the 760th Flexible Gunnery Training Squadron, and in 1945 as a Boeing B-20 Superfortress aerial gunner with the Guam-based 61st Bombardment Squadron. In total, Bronson flew 25 missions and received a Purple Heart for wounds he received during the war.
