Art Linkletter’s show “Kids Say The Darndest Things” was both hilarious and wholesome. He did an amazing job getting kids to open up and say some unexpectedly funny things.

He really livened things up when he brought his show to “The Jack Benny Program.” It was a comical mashup of two beloved 1950s shows.

First, Art brought out four children to meet the audience. The first boy told everyone his mom was expecting a baby, even though the family hadn’t made the announcement yet. The first boy and girl who had just met were sweet on each other. The girl was upset that the boy hadn’t kissed her yet.

The audience erupted in laughter when the last girl told everyone her dad complains when he doesn’t have cold beer! This was at a time when you didn’t say such things in public! She threw her dad right under the bus!

After the kids were escorted off the stage, four unusual children replaced them. This group of children consisted of Jack Benny and his castmates. Jack Benny was dressed as a long-haired boy wearing shorts that showed off his skinny and hairy legs. He was rather impatient as he waited for Art to ask him questions. Art even had to warn him not to ruin his set as Benny threw a bit of a temper tantrum!

Hilarious! Art Linkletter got a bit more than he bargained for with that crew. The real kids were better behaved than Jack Benny!

This was long before we had the ability to record television shows, so even though Art Linkletter’s show was so popular, many people in the audience might have been seeing it for the first time since they worked while it aired during the day.
