Netflix’s science fiction series has received some exciting updates. After premiering in March 2024, 3 Body Problem season 2 is currently in production, with a new cast member.

The series is based on Liu Cixin’s novel series Remembrance of Earth’s Past. The official blurb of the series says, “During the Chinese Cultural Revolution, a young astrophysicist considered a political dissident is employed at a secret military radio station. Forty years later, a number of scientists all over the world start taking their own lives. A nanotechnology expert starts having visions of an ominous countdown. The key to the mystery might lie in a strange VR game that uses advanced technology.”

With the production announcement for season two came the exciting news of a new cast member, known for their role in Game of Thrones. 3 Body Problem stars several Game of Thrones stars like John Bradley (known for Samwell Tarly of the Night’s Watch), Jonathan Pryce (known as High Sparrow, leader of the Sparrows’ religious sect), and Liam Cunningham (known as Davos Seaworth, who served Stannis Baratheon), but now with the addition of Alfie Allen. Allen is known as Theon Greyjoy, who lived with the Starks for years as their ward after a failed rebellion.
The Netflix series comes from the co-creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, so the reunion with more actors is exciting.
3 Body Problem season 2 description is brief and cryptic, saying “As the alien invasion nears, humanity prepares — on Earth and elsewhere.”
“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” the showrunners said. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us.”
While there are no details on the release date yet, we’re hoping to see the second season of 3 Body Problem in 2026.
