With mere days away from the 2022 SummerSlam event, news has been buzzing about one of the biggest WWE pay-per-views (PPVs) of the year. First off, the company had original plans for a wrestling power couple, plus, Seth Rollins may end up getting a match at the show.
SummerSlam: Original Plans For WWE Couple
Beth Pheonix and Edge are a major WWE couple. However, the Rated-R Superstar has been out of action since his Judgement Day stable turned on him in early June.

According to PW Insider’s Mike Johnson, the WWE had planned for both Edge and Beth Phoenix to participate at the 2022 SummerSlam event in some capacity. In fact, they were supposed to be a part of this week’s RAW at Madison Square Gardens.
More News On SummerSlam & A WWE Top Power Couple
As per reports, plans changed after Vince McMahon announced his retirement. There’s a lot going on in the WWE right now, so whether Beth and Edge will be at SummerSlam is currently unknown.
The reason why plans changed is unknown, too. It’s also unclear when the WWE couple will jump into storylines, together.
Interestingly enough, there has been buzz that Edge may be the reason that the Matt Riddle/Seth Rollins match was pulled from the big event. More on that story, down below.
Seth Rollins Match
The belief that seems to be circulating is that despite the Riddle/Rollins match being canceled, Seth will still have a bout at the hottest event of the summer. In fact, his competitor could be Edge.
Rollins recently jumped on social media to express his displeasure with not being a part of the Big Four PPV. WWE announced that Matt is dealing with an injury and hasn’t been cleared to wrestle.
However, reports indicate the injury is storyline-related. Regardless, HHH, the big head honcho of WWE Creative now, replied to Rollins’s tweet.

You can see the exchange, above. Looks like Trips may have some plans for Seth, after all.
While nothing has been announced, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio recently talked about the situation. He notes that fans should “expect” Seth Rollins to have a match, even though it’s not clear who it could be.
Moving Things Around A Bit
Still, the WWE Universe should find out who Rollins is facing, in the days ahead. Meltzer also notes that the WWE has moved the Riddle versus Rollins bout to the Clash at the Castle PPV.
He states this is for “whatever reason”. Dave speculates that the WWE will likely announce Seth Rollins’ SummerSlam match on Friday Night SmackDown.
With VKM’s retirement, there’s been quite an executive shuffle. Triple H is leading creative, while Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan have turned into co-CEOs.
WWE fans should expect a shift in the brand and storylines in the weeks and months ahead, with Vince’s retirement. Perhaps, SummerSlam is the first step in this new era for the company.
With Trips leading WWE Creative, there should be some fun exciting things ahead. Only time will tell.
