When Brock Lesnar had his debut in the WWE in 2002, I had respect for the young up and comer. However, recently I feel like he spits in the faces of every wrestling fan with his “appear and collect paycheck” attitude. Several wrestlers, including Dean Ambrose, have made statements about the wrestler and how he refuses to put any real effort into match preparation. The most recent to make such a statement is Roman Reigns, who made a comment on their WrestleMania 31 match.
Refusing to Listen to Ideas
During the podcast Talk Is Jericho, Roman Reigns stated that it was extremely difficult to exchange ideas with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. According to Reigns, the pair showed little interest in discussing the match and decided to head into the match and simply squash Reigns.
Reigns also stated the following during the interview, which certainly points to a lot of tension between the WWE wrestler, Heyman and Lesnar: “But those two, they’re something else. They wanted to kill me. They were convinced however many people were there eighty [thousand], whatever, they wanted to see me get crushed. They were there and they just want to see Roman get his ass beat. And I can’t disagree with them, but brother [has] got to fight. Hey, you can kick my ass all you want, but I’m going to fight.”
Even though I’m no fan of Reigns, I still respect his work ethic. Of course, Reigns is not the first to state how difficult Brock is to work with, and many wrestling fans are starting to see the same.
The Rules Don’t Apply to Lesnar
When reading the responses of a lot of our readers, I notice that many of them are upset with the fact that rules don’t apply to Lesnar. While I’m glad to see that more people feel the same way I do, it still doesn’t change Lesnar’s position in the company. While Lesnar may have some good characteristics, the bad part of Lesnar is certainly well-known.
Opposed to other wrestlers currently signed with WWE, Lesnar is a part-timer who is free to negotiate a better deal with the WWE at any time. Therefore, when he holds the title he could give the WWE management a virtual F5 if he would decide to do so.
Lesnar was also caught taking illegal anti-estrogen drugs by UFC, during which he was also signed with the WWE. Lesnar was banned by the UFC shortly after and received a $250,000 fine for his failed drug test. Meanwhile, the WWE did not reprimand Lesnar. While he did get some losses against Goldberg, which could be seen as punishment, he does hold the title at the moment.
A statement made by the WWE later stated that the rules did not apply on part-timers so that Lesnar would not be reprimanded. In other words, as long as someone brings in enough cash and merchandise sales, the rules don’t apply to them. I wonder how long this sacrilege of the wrestling sport will continue? He might be advertised as a beast, but using performance enhancers to stay at the top is pretty weak to me.
What’s your opinion on Brock Lesnar, his antics within the WWE and his disrespectful treatment of WWE fans?
