Days after Nikki Bella announced her retirement from wrestling on the season finale of Total Bellas, it seems she has changed her mind about retirement (again). It also seems like Nikki is not the only one wanting to come out of retirement. In fact, her twin sister Brie has also shown a desire to come out of retirement for a specific reason. What is that reason? The Women’s Tag Team Championships!

Nikki and Brie Bella Coming Out of Retirement After WrestleMania?

Nikki and Brie Bella

With the first episode of The Bellas Podcast, both Nikki and Brie Bella have declared they would come back to the WWE for a final run. And, that would involve becoming the WWE Women’s Tag  Team Champions. Considering both women have several accolades to their name, it is not surprising they would like to be part of the women’s tag team title history, too. It could also prove an interesting match-up, especially when you consider how little has been done around the tag team titles since they have been won by Bayley and Sasha Banks.

“Nicole and I did tell everyone, yes, that we are stepping away from the ring – which is true, we are.  But we also did say that before the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles came into place. And this is the thing, guys – for years my sister and I were begging for the Women’s Tag Team titles. Begging. We actually never thought that could truly be a reality. The fact that it is now, makes it extremely tempting for us to go back and fight for them because we’re really the longest-reigning, most authentic tag team.” – Brie Bella

While Bayley and Sasha Banks have been taking the tag team titles across brands, the actual promotion for the tag team titles has been lacklustre. While they have been featured a number of times since they won the titles, there is little in terms of interesting matches and feuds. Naturally, this leaves us with an underwhelming reign for the tag team championships. At the moment, it almost appears like a side-thought. Having Nikki and Brie going for those titles and maybe run with the titles for a little while may provide the exposure and the gravitas the titles deserve.

The Longest Reigning, Most Authentic Tag Team

Love or hate The Bella Twins, nobody can deny that they have been working in a tag team formation for a long time. In fact, one of their most iconic “tricks,” Twin Magic, put them in the title picture more than once. While Twin Magic works better in singles, Brie and Nikki are mainstream popular, so it could draw a lot of attention to the women’s tag team championship. Yes, I am sure a lot of people would prefer to see active wrestlers running around with the belt, but women’s wrestling could benefit from this. In the end, that is what matters. For too long, women have been an afterthought in the WWE. Even with the arrival of the titles, it seems like women are an afterthought again. A good feud with some mainstream popular characters may turn things around in the eyes of WWE management.
