Yesterday, I reported on the latest wrestler to be signed by NXT, the developmental brand of the WWE. The new addition to the NXT brand, Amanpreet Singh, is a former Impact Wrestling wrestler, but fans are not responding that in the manner the WWE may have expected. Here is the story!
Increasing the Number of Indian Wrestlers
It is indeed no secret that the WWE has been increasing the number of Indian wrestlers on their roster since they are still looking to conquer the Indian market. Recent signings to the roster include Sauvar Gurjar, Rinku Singh, and Kavita Devi.
Outrage
The latest addition to the NXT roster is not being received with open arms, since many believe there is much better talent out there. Many believe the WWE are signing Indian stars to get that foothold on the Indian market, and I honestly do not believe they are wrong.
Here are some of the reactions from fans to the signing of Amanpreet Singh to the NXT brand.
“That’s the worst Impact pickup yet.”
“His physique is carrying him.”
“He’s like if Jinder Mahal had a baby with Mojo Rawley and they smacked it in the head with a shovel.”
“Awful.”
“…atrocious. I can understand the logic of WWE wanting more Indian stars, but there must be better options out there.”
“HIM?!? Oh come on.. This is now just signing people just to sign people!”
Give the Guy a Chance
I will be the first to admit that Amanpreet Singh’s track record has not been the best and that I fail to see the reason why he got signed before other deserving talent. However, this does not take away from the fact that the WWE did sign him.
To be honest, it has to be frustrating for him as well. He is experiencing one of the most exciting moments of his life, being signed by the WWE! However, the reactions of fans are putting this exciting time in jeopardy.
I am more than willing to give the man a chance, and I believe everyone else should too. He is signed to the NXT brand for a reason. It will give him time to develop his character and his skills even more, and who knows, he could become amazing! Give the man an opportunity to prove himself, and we can judge later.
Look, I am the first to admit that I was extremely surprised the WWE has signed Amanpreet. I have no doubt that his physique and roots certainly have something to do with it, given the WWE’s wish to expand to India. However, you cannot blame Amanpreet for that. Our frustration should be aimed at the WWE, and not a wrestler that is trying to make a living and become a role model to others.
What do you think about the reaction of fans? Should we give him a chance? Or is the WWE going too far with the recruitment of Indian superstars to expand their brand on the Indian market? Let us know in the comment section below.
