Everyone knows that Corey Graves does not have a filter, and I seriously love him for that. However, it seemed like poor Corey got in trouble again for something so innocent; this time for making an unfortunate comment during 205 Live.

The Tom Phillips Chronicles

Tom Phillips

Before we elaborate on the comments of Corey Graves, we need to go back to February 2017. Engaged commentator Tom Phillips probably made the biggest mistake of his life by trying to cheat on his (former?) fiancé by sending a rather explicit DM to a girl called Melissa on Instagram.

Tom Phillips Instagram Cheat

Melissa later found out that the man she was talking to was actually a high-profile WWE commentator who was engaged at the time. As a form of revenge (you go girl), she shared the explicit messages by posting a screenshot of the Instagram conversation. She also said the following:

“This is why I don’t trust people. Without my friends, I never would’ve known that a high profile WWE commentator who was talking to me and wanted to get together, is engaged. I had zero idea and I couldn’t be more sorry to the girl involved. You deserve better than this. Apparently, nobody is faithful anymore.”

What Happened on 205 Live?

So, now you’re up to date with the history, let’s move on to what happened at 205 Live. This Tuesday, Swann successfully stole the heart of Alicia Fox from Noam Dar. Then, Phillips continued by calling Dar a ‘Euro-trash pervert.’ Graves continued by defending Dar with the following statement:

“It’s not like Dar was sending DMs on Instagram to people that he shouldn’t have been. There’s nothing embarrassing about what he’s done. He simply stole the heart of a beautiful woman from Cedric Alexander, who was neglectful. Didn’t show Alicia Fox the attention she deserved. … It’s a lot longer flight than four hours for Dar.”

Personally, I found the comments spot on and hilarious! While it is surprising that Graves said this on the air, I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. Phillips did make the mistake, so why can’t a friend make a joke about it? Unfortunately, this little comment has been blown so out of proportion.

Corey’s Response

It does seem like Corey has posted a response about the whole situation on his Twitter, again something I really love! I do understand his reaction though, because I didn’t even pick up on it during 205 Live to be honest. Only when I saw responses from the WWE Universe did I clock on (Yes, I can be a little slow on weekdays).

My Take On Things

Corey Graves

Look, this is something completely different from the JBL situation. Tom Phillips and Corey Graves are friends, so you joke around with friends, it’s normal! It’s refreshing to have a commentator who is real and down-to-earth, other than the traditional commentator we have come to know over the years.

Conclusion? This is not worth the negative attention it’s getting. We should be glad we have someone as honest and open as Corey Graves as a commentator, which is 1000% better than many wrestling commentators from the past! So, you keep going Corey and never let yourself be censored!

What’s your take? Do you think Corey was over the line or spot on? Let us know in the comments!
